If you're reading this, I hope you will continue and browse my web site.  Writing has become such a huge part of my life; I hope I can share it with you.

Some words from me:

A Spectacular Summer

I can’t believe summer is finally here!  And warm sunny weather is only one of the reasons for my elation.  Since school is officially out for the summer, I can now completely immerse myself in my writing – something I have been craving for months now.  Although I am thrilled to now be able to satisfy that craving, I have other exciting news.

My oldest daughter wants to team up with me to work on a project or two.  She had written a short story for her English class and now wants to expand on it, with her sights set on transforming it into a novelette.

I provided a framework for her to build her story with the instruction that she will have to supply the building materials.  Since she was the one who breathed life into her characters, it will be her job to determine where her main character needs to go, the obstacles she will face, and how she will get there.  I would not be comfortable with changing her vision, and therefore stunting her creativity.  I wish to only provide her the tools to expand on her original idea.

The teacher in me then assigned her homework – to write every day with a goal of 1K a day.  However, I reassured her that I will continue to give her suggestions and help along the way and a second set of eyes for her revisions and editing.

So every day this summer, after I’ve completed my own writing goal for the day – when working on revisions at least five chapters or when writing a rough draft 2,000 words or more – I’ll be teaming up with my daughter and helping to foster her enthusiasm for writing.

BREAKING CEDAR, the next one in my Cedar series is due out June 29 as an e-book.  After that one is published, I will be continuing to work on the manuscript for SEVEN DEGREES STRONGER, the next one in Cole's series, which I am hoping to publish early next year.

It’s looking to be one incredible summer!

SEVERAL MONTHS AGO:

I was thrilled and incredibly grateful to be tagged by Eve A. James.  She is the author of “Rose Awaken”, “Rose Discovered”, and “Rose Revealed.”

She is working on another great project so check it out.

What is the title of your next book?

My next book to be published is “Breaking Cedar”, the second book in the Cedar Series.  “Discovering Cedar” is the first in the series which I self-published in June of 2009.  However, as I continued writing other stories, I decided to revise it again and then republished it as an e-book in July of 2012.

Where did the idea come from for the book?

The idea was actually the result of mounting curiosity.  I had awakened from an incredibly vivid dream in which I was the main character.  I was standing near a boy my age arguing about a paper.  His car was parked beside us with another girl sitting in the passenger seat.  All of a sudden, the girl disappeared and I took off running through the nearby woods with the boy hot on my trail.

Well, I just had to discover who “I” was, the boy, the other girl, why she disappeared, what that paper was, and why the boy wanted it so badly.  That curiosity transformed into the novel “Discovering Cedar.”  However, the journey didn’t end there.  With an innocent question from my oldest daughter, the ending changed course and grew into a second book.  After that, the characters took over with twists and surprises of their own and story lines for book three and four emerged.

What genre does your book fall under?

Young Adult Paranormal

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I had a really difficult time picking actors for the roles, since there wasn’t anyone in mind when I wrote the story.  However, Steven Strait, who played Caleb in The Covenant, is a good choice.  Kylan is a dark haired, dark eyed, smokin’ hot guy with a dangerous side edged with a soft sadness for what he’s gone through in his life.  Although his path and purpose was once set for him, circumstance challenges him to question it all.

I had an equally difficult time finding someone to play Cedar Monroe.  Mila Kunis, who portrayed Jamie in Friends with Benefits, has potential.  Cedar is strong, growing in confidence, determined, and good hearted.  While she is resilient, she doubts her own strength.  Cedar is willing to give everyone a second chance and search for the good in every person even when it’s buried deep.

What is a one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Discovering she is the protector of a powerful spell – one that not only unlocks the way to immortality but has the potential to release something far more sinister – and her decision to carry on that burden, even after recent heartaches, have thrust Cedar Monroe’s life into peril and leave her wondering if she can truly trust Kylan Turner.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

While I would love to have an agent represent me, at the present time I am planning on self-publishing again as an e-book.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

The manuscript took me about three months to draft and is currently undergoing revisions.  I hope to publish it in the summer of 2013.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Most Young Adult stories contain a love story, discovering who you are, and finding a purpose.  While my story encompasses all of these, I write in my own style with ideas that are solely from my own imagination.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

It was once again curiosity.  The students in my fourth grade class at the time and my own children added to my growing desire to discover what happened to the characters in my dream.

What else about your book might pique the reader interest?

Life is about making choices even if neither choice seems good at the time.  Cedar deals with that often, throwing her relentlessly from one crisis to another.

There is also a spin off in the making, following characters you will meet in the third and fourth books of this series.

Well, I have shared much about my new story and it is time for me to share another talented writer I think you should hear about.  Please visit her blog and read about “The Next Big Thing” coming from her:
